LOS ANGELES / MUMBAI — James Cameron’s return to Pandora has officially set the holiday box office ablaze. Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third installment in the sci-fi juggernaut franchise, has crossed the $450 million mark globally as of Christmas Day, reaffirming the series' massive international appeal despite stiff competition.

Released worldwide on December 19, 2025, the film has dominated ticket sales across premium formats like IMAX and 3D, though it faces a unique set of challengers compared to its 2022 predecessor, The Way of Water.

Global Performance: A Fiery Start

According to the latest figures from Comscore and Box Office Mojo, Fire and Ash pulled in a massive $345 million during its opening weekend globally. While this falls short of The Way of Water’s $441.7 million debut, analysts note that the 2025 holiday corridor is significantly more crowded. The film is currently battling for screens with Disney’s own animated behemoth Zootopia 2, which has been a box office sensation since late November.

"The drop in opening weekend numbers isn't a sign of fatigue, but rather a divided marketplace," said senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian. "However, Cameron’s films are marathon runners, not sprinters. We expect long legs through January."

India Box Office: Nearing the ₹100 Crore Club

In India, the Na'vi have found a loyal audience, though they are facing a homegrown titan. Avatar: Fire and Ash has minted approximately ₹95.75 Crore (net) in its first six days, with trade experts predicting it will comfortably cross the ₹100 Crore milestone by the end of Christmas Day.
